Volunteer Application Form
If you are inspired to volunteer at the Ashram let your passion flow while writing to us! We receive a lot of emails and the people we usually accept are those who are lit up by our vision, who are interested in ego-transcendence and Prior Freedom and have a deep longing for real relationships. If you are not accepted as a volunteer then you may still be interested in knowing Awakened Life Project by joining one of our events - retreats, webinars or courses.

After we receive your Application we will set up a 30-min Zoom call to get to know each other and to make sure you know everything you need before staying with us. For "Sponsored volunteers" we will ask for a 50€ non-refundable deposit as we had problems in the past with people booking their spot and then canceling at the last moment. If you come as scheduled we are very happy to apply this 50€ towards the payment for your stay. For "Paying volunteers" we will ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking.

If you have financial difficulty but you really want to come you can apply for our gift economy program. Please email us for details.

Please submit the Application Form below or apply via email info@awakenedlifeproject.org
We look forward to hearing from you!
Volunteer!
We accept volunteers from approximately April to the end of October. We do not accept volunteers during the winter season from November to March. We take in the applications from January of each year - however It is better to contact us early in the year as we book up quickly.

Quinta da Mizarela is a non-traditional Ashram that is the heart of this grand experiment called the Awakened Life Project. It is not an ecovillage nor a permaculture farm but a unique container dedicated to promote and nurture the delicate process of Awakening. Located in Central Portugal, the Ashram is a small eden surrounded by hills and crossed by a small river and its waterfalls. Here life unfolds in a simple way and in harmony with the ecological web of life.

As a volunteer you will be immersed in the strong container held by Cynthia Lea Rose and the residents wherein authentic relationships will support you in seeing through your limited beliefs and conditionings to rest and sink deeper into your prior nature of Equanimity and Happiness . Volunteering with us means participating in all our activities that include morning and evening meditation practices, attending a weekly Q&A or "satsang" session with our teacher, a weekly volunteer meeting and a one day of silence per week for deepening meditation and contemplation.

We are happy that you are thinking of volunteering at the Awakened Life Project Ashram. We have had some amazing volunteers in the past and we look forward to meeting others.

It's important to us that before people arrive they know what we are about. We want to make sure volunteering is a positive experience for everyone. So please take the time to read our Vision&Philosophy page to see if this is the right place for you and you are the right volunteer for us! If you like what you see then fill out the Volunteer Application form. Once that is done we will get in touch with you to set up a call to get to know each other better. We have two kinds of volunteers options:

Sponsored volunteers
You will work 6 hours per day/ 5 days a week and pay 5€/ day

Paying Volunteers
You will work 3 hours per day/ 5 days a week and pay 25€/ day.

Your payment goes toward the project for your accommodation and food. Depending on the event schedule you may be asked to work on the weekends but you will have 2 days off during the week. Working times can be flexible and are usually determined by weather conditions and what needs to be taken care of. We ask for flexibility from the volunteers if more hours are required on a specific day to finish a project and we do take individual preferences into consideration as much as possible.
Formalities
Accomodation

We provide you a space in a 2 person tent with private compartments, you can of course bring your own if you wish so. The tents are pitched down the valley where you can enjoy the coolness of the nearby river and waterfalls.

Diet

Life at the Ashram gives the opportunity to look at our conditionings from all sorts of angles. Food tends to be a very important one. People from different backgrounds and different eating habits come together and often find themselves faced with a lot of fear of not getting what they think their bodies need. Of course we are all unique in our physical structure and physiological needs and we try to accommodate all the basic needs as best as we can. But on top of that is often a deep layer of fear, addiction, comfort and control in regards to how we eat.

How are we dealing with that? First of all we make the relationship we have to food conscious and talk about it. As with everything that we are doing here at the Ashram, we don't want to get rigid and we don't want to indulge and lose consciousness in whatever we are doing. A general rule is that we serve simple vegetarian/vegan food.

Things to know

Because we are interested in creating an ashram environment that supports living a conscious holistic life we have a few rules:

  • No drugs
  • No smoking
  • No alcohol
  • No sexual gaming and flirtation
  • No excessive use of smartphone
  • No access to the internet
We have lots of animals. Our animals are a big part of the Quinta so if you are allergic to any of these it could be a bit difficult!
What to bring
Biodegradable soaps and shampoos
Buying this in Portugal is not easy so please plan ahead and buy them in your home country if you come from abroad. We do not provide these and we do not want people to use regular soaps and shampoos as preserving the pure water from any pollution is very important to us.

Sleeping bags or your own bedding
If you are traveling and do not have this we can provide bedding if needed but please let us know ahead of time.

Torches (or flashlights)
These are VERY NECESSARY! Candles are prohibited as the fire risk is very high here and we have already had several fires.

Towel
Hat
Work clothes
Work boots
Sandals in the summer
